At Last You Can Train Your Dog Not To “go” On Your Magnificent Carpet With This 3-step Program

First thing you’ll probably need to do when you arrive home with a brand new dog is show him that when he wants to “go potty” the place to do it is not on the living room carpet

Be assured, this is easy! It’s a simple task.If you know what to do, and if you are consistent, gentle and firm with your dog, you can teach him in just three simple steps.

Start training him by settling in your own mind in what place you want him to “go”. You have to pick a spot. The best place would be in an unvisited part of your garden where he could scratch and rake the earth after he’s done. On the margin of your lawn is always a good place. In the shrubs on your boundary might work, as these are private and there will be earth under them where he can scratch. Actually, there are many possible places, and you just need to pick one of them. When you’ve decided, stick with your decision — make this his “potty” area. Don’t change your mind on the location.

Now watch your pup after meals. You will notice that he makes distinctive movements when he feels the urge to eliminate waste. Perhaps he will stop still. He may look at you intently. Often a puppy in this situation will strain his body. There will be signs that he is about to do his business. When you see these signs quickly pick him up and hurry out to that place you have chosen.

Now, when you do, go out by the same doorways and path through the house. Do this, and he will learn to associate “going potty with departing from the house.

Gently and without rush place your dog down in the training area but don’t leave him: him unattended – instead wait until he starts to evacuate his bowels and just then say a special word of command. Quickly he will link your command with his eliminating and in time will only “go” when you use your word. Put some thought in before you choose this word. It should be a word other people won’t laugh at. Your dog will be out with you on occasion and feel the need to eliminate. If your word will cause people to snigger at the time, you will regret it.

Finally, when he has finished, reward your puppy. Some dog owners use food. Sometimes they will use a clicker. Whatever you do, give your puppy something that says, “Special! You’re a good boy!”

Try this and see that your dog will learn where to “go”.
